I couldn\u2019t see this microscopic detail with my bare eye. Sometimes I had to use the camera to see what was hiding inside.<\/p>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size: small; color: rgb(189, 172, 142);\">The microscopic shapes here are inside this solid ice. The bubbles at one point had been moving up and down, freely flowing, but here are<span style=\"font-size:small;\"><\/span> frozen in one instant.<\/p>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size: small; color: rgb(189, 172, 142);\">Freezing over time creates layers of ripples. It\u2019s\nlike a topographical map\u2014every time the water\ncame up, another layer was added.<\/p>\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size: small; color: rgb(189, 172, 142);\">Here is an example of an image that\nwas only possible\u2014of shapes that\nonly exist\u2014at certain, extremely\ncold, temperatures. This was taken\nfirst thing in the morning, as the light\nwas just coming up.
